THE ARTIFACT
This white and green beach glass was reclaimed from the shores of Lake Erie. Each piece is unique. I have mounted the glass pieces on a pin and added festive, colorful accents.
DIMENSIONS & SCALE
- Artifact type: reclaimed Lake Erie beach glass
- Artifact size: assembled beach glass approximately 1.25 inches in diameter (varies – see reference photo with quarter for visual scale)
THE ORIGIN
Our green artifacts typically trace back to early industrial glass—bottles that once held spirits or medicinal bitters. These pieces are often the thickest and most textured, bearing the deep ‘pitting’ that only comes from a lifetime spent on the lake floor.
Clear white glass fragments began their journey as early 20th-century ‘flint glass’—the clear, high-quality crystal once used for apothecary jars, milk bottles, and domestic glassware. Lost to the lake decades ago, the relentless scouring of Lake Erie’s shale-heavy shelf has ‘frosted’ the translucent surface into a brilliant, matte white, transforming discarded utility into a spectral, gem-like relic.
