The Collector’s Guide (FAQ)
Understanding the Shoreline Artifacts
Is the glass real?
Yes. Every piece is genuine Lake Erie beach glass. I never use ‘frosted’ or machine-tumbled glass. Each shard has been naturally frosted by decades of Lake Erie surf and shale.
Where do you find your driftwood?
I scout the high-water marks of the Lake Erie shoreline, specifically around the Mentor Headlands coast, but I range far around the lake for special trips (see my Bio page for more information). Each piece is sun-bleached and studio-cured.
Why are some colors more expensive?
Rarity. While white and brown are common, colors like Cobalt, Red, and Lavender are ‘relic’ colors—often originating from vintage apothecary bottles or sunken vessels. They wash up far less frequently.
Will the driftwood rot?
It should not rot because every piece is thoroughly cleaned and air-dried (cured) in the studio or in open air and sunshine to remove moisture and organisms. It is an organic, lasting sculpture.
Can I request a custom piece?
I love custom orders! I can work with either your glass or mine. If you have a special find from your own shoreline hunt, I can often wire-wrap or mount it for you. I will also work with you to make your vision a reality. Contact me to start the conversation.
Can I order two of the same item?
The glass will never be identical; however, the wire wrap could be, and in most cases, the beads could be as well. So while no two pairs could be completely identical, they could be close.
How do you ship fragile driftwood art?
I use reinforced or padded packaging to ensure your shoreline treasure arrives safely from our studio to your home.
