THE ARTIFACT
This black and white stone was reclaimed from the shores of Lake Erie, its edges softened by decades of tumbling in the surf. Each piece is unique. I have hand-wrapped the gold wire to follow the natural, organic silhouette of the stone, highlighting the marbling within the stone.
DIMENSIONS & SCALE
- Artifact type: reclaimed Lake Erie stone
- Artifact size: approximately 1.25 inches wide (see reference photo with quarter for visual scale)
- Metal: gold wire
- Chain: 22-inch gold cable
THE ORIGIN
A product of immense pressure and time, these marbled stones are likely fragments of ancient metamorphic rock, like gneiss or marble, carried into the lake by glacial movement. The striking white veins are quartz deposits that filled fractures in the darker host rock millions of years ago.
THE LORE
In local lakeside tradition, stones with a white vein are known as “Wishing Stones.” These are carried as talismans of good fortune, representing a continuous path and a focused intention.
